I had my first day of work 2 days ago. It was on a commercial set as a production assistant. And what a day it was...

It started at 5:45 AM when my alarm went off, waking me up in time to leave my house at 6:15 and get to the mall where we were shooting at 7. I got there and met up with the 2nd 2nd (assistant director) where she was hectically telling me some of the stuff we needed to do. About 20 minutes into talking to her I felt something sharp and painful in my arm. I looked down and there's a fucking stinger in the underside of my arm. I don't remember the last time I was stung by a bee, so I quickly pulled it out, hoping to God I wasn't allergic. What a way to start off being a PA- having to be taken to a hospitle because of a bee sting. The spot on my arm is still red and itchy, but it's going down. Stupid fucking bugs.

Continuing with the day, I did a few random things for the next 2 hours and just tried to stay out of people's way. Then I was deligated a super exciting job...sit outside in the heat for the whole day and watch the big trucks out in the parking lot so no one steals shit out of it. A rather boring and uneventful job, but important nonetheless. If they didn't have someone out there watching the trucks someone could just run in, grab something, and they could lose thousands of dollars. So I spent the next 7 hours sitting outside just watching trucks. It really wasn't that bad, because a lot of people walked by me, so I was talking to a lot of different people about being on the set. Also I had my own walkie talkie, so I got to listen when the director called action and told people to do certain things. It was actually pretty cool.

Once they were wrapped I got to leave my post watching the trucks and help everyone pack up everything. It turned out to be an 11 hour work day, but including the time it took me to wake up and drive to/from, it was more like 13. Luckily I was paid very well, so it was worth it. And although most people knew I didn't have a lot of experience, they were all still really nice and so many people were willing to give me tips and be really helpful. I think I'm going to work another shoot in mid-July. It's supposed to be 3 days long, so I guess I'll see how I do with getting up when it's still dark 3 days in a row.

On a different topic- I saw The All-American Rejects tonight at the fair. It's the first concert I've been to since December. Although I had a seat and it wasn't that long of a concert, it reminded me of how much I really love seeing bands live. Fall Out Boy is this Sunday, and I'm looking forward to it even more now.

Last Wednesday I was hanging out with Wes, Keith, and Keith's roommate (Bryan) in their dorm. Wes and Keith were playing video games, I was spacing out because they were playing video games, and Bryan was messing around on his guitar. Then randomly Bryan goes, "My friend Zac's movie is coming out soon." I've had friends who know people with little roles in random stuff before, so I didn't really get to excited about this. But still, I asked what movie and he said Hairspray. I then say, "Oh, really? Who is he?" thinking he was some background dancer or something.

Bryan replies: "Zac Efron"

I had the blankest look on my face after that. I don't even care about High School Musical or any of that stuff, but the fact that Bryan is good friends with Zac Efron blew my mind. Especially because Bryan is a HUUUGE druggie. Makes me wonder if they share the common interest. However, I did later find out the reason Zac isn't on the HSM tour is because he got a DUI. Hahaha.

Since it took me awhile to formulate a sentence, Keith goes "What, are you in love with him?" I then said "No, but I know people who are!!" We didn't stay on the topic for too long, but what Bryan did tell me was that they had to butch him up a bit for Hairspray and that he had to keep that Disney image for 3 years cause he had a contract with them. And I also found out that yes, he and Vanessa Hudgens are indeed dating in real life.

That's pretty much the end of the story. I couldn't think of anything else to ask Bryan without sounding super stalkery. But I do wish I had asked him if he smokes...I'd totally light up with Troy Bolton. ;-)

I'm so concert deprived it hurts. I haven't been to one since December which is very, very sad. So to cheer myself up I went through all the bands I love's myspaces to see when they're touring. Even more sadly, a lot of them are going to be doing international tours this summer. That's what happens when they all did Warped Tour last year I guess...

But anyways, here's the concerts I really really want to go to:

Fall Out Boy: Coors Amp.
July 1
w/ The Academy Is, +44, Cobra Starship, and Paul Wall (ehhh).
Already have tickets for this, so this is my one sure thing.

All-American Rejects: Del Mar Fair
June 28
!!!! They're playing at the fair!! Way better than Kelly Clarkson last year. Now I have to figure out how to get tickets to that...

Motion City Soundtrack: Soma
July 11
w/ Sherwood, the Higher, and The Forecast.
Gotta love MCS. I'd happily see them again.

Incubus: Coors Amp.
September 8
w/ I dunno yet
I WANT TO SEE INCUBUS SOOOOO BADLY. I'm willing to deal with a seat ticket just because I love them so much and have yet to see them in concert. Tickets aren't on sale yet so I'm going to try for a pit ticket, but we'll see how that works out.

Warmed Tour: Coors Amp
August 24 (possible LA: August 25)
Eh, the line up isn't as good as last year (in my opinion), but there's still a good amount of bands I want to see. They include: The Starting Line, Cute Is What We Aim For, Amber Pacific, Boys Like Girls (!), Red Jumpsuit Aparatus, All Time Low, Flogging Molly, Envy on the Coast, The Rocket Summer, Sum 41 (haha just to say I saw them play).

And bands I only have a few songs from but think would be coo live are: The Matches, Daphne Loves Derby, Anberlin, Circa Survive, Kaddisfly

I should get going on buying tickets, so show of hands of who's going to what!

Ah, well things are looking up from Sunday already.

Stuff that put me in a less shitty mood:

1. I got an on campus apartment. UCSC let WAAAAY too many freshman in, so there was little to no chance I was going to get one, but by the miracle of the Gods we were one of the last groups to get an apartment. Woo!

2. I'm almost done with my paper due Thursday, I finished a re-write for my TA to look over sooner than I thought I would, and I have yet to start my paper due Friday but I at least have an idea of what I'm doing it on.

3. Heroes finale last night was pretty awesome. Left it at an interesting (yet confusing) place for next season. After Heroes Wes came over and he helped cheer me up too.

4. Three day weekend to look forward to and then next week nothing too big is due so I have time to get all my other projects and essays done.

5. It's pretty and sunny here. Ima wear a cute dress tomorrow.

6. There's a good chance I'm going to work for my dad's friends as a PA (production assistant) over the summer. I'll have to work long hours and do the bitch work, but I can make some good money from it and it has a more flexible schedule.

7. ...I still can't believe I got an apartment. That's so freaking cool.

So this was an interesting weekend. Jenny and Jenine came to visit me which was very, very exciting. They got here Friday afternoon and I showed them around campus and then that night we went to two different parties. Saturday I had to go look at an off campus house possibility for next year (which is sooo stressful) with Dani and then we met up with the gang to get food, explore downtown, and then walk to the boardwalk. Today we woke up, got breakfast, I did some homework while Jenny and Jenine just kinda chilled, and then they left around 3.

I had a good time and everything, it was just a really strange experience to have people who are so much a part of my life back home be intergrated with the people who are a part of my new life in college. It almost felt like the two worlds didn't mix or something. I'm so different from how I was in high school, and I love that. I don't want to go back to the way I was before, and having my friends come to visit me in college almost made me feel like they were bringing back an old part of me. When I'm home with them I'm fine and still feel confident with myself, so it's weird.

Then today I had a dream where I woke up to set my phone alarm and I saw I got a text from Wes which I replied to, but he didn't reply back because something bad had happened to him. It felt really real. When I actually woke up I texted him and didn't get a response so when I was by his apartment I checked in to make sure he was there. He probably thinks I'm crazy, and I feel like my subconscious is kind of making me seem that way. Last week and this week have not been putting me in a good mood.

School is ending for me in less than a month, and as much as I want to go home and see everyone I love...I don't want to leave college. Even though school is a bitch, I love the social aspect and all the friends I've made. I don't want to leave them for 2 and a half months. I've gotten the system down with my friends from home, but my college friends are going to go back to their own lives and even though I'm going to try to see them over the summer I don't know exactly how everything will work out. I'm going to miss having someone down the hall that will watch Futurama with me at 2 in the morning.

I also have two papers due this coming week and a bunch of reading I really need to do. I should have gotten more done today but I just didn't have the time/motivation.

But my one positive note: Shrek the Third was amazing. "There's a strange little girl staring at us!!" *cut to a shot of Justin Timberlake's character. Ha.

Blaaah I'm bored. I have reading I should do, but I really really don't want to. And most of it isn't due until later in the week anyways. The only entertaining thing to come from my boredom is this conversation:

Wes: heyy whats up
Me: ughh boredom
Me: i'm actually reading ahead in anthropology. how sad is that
Wes: damn thats pretty bad
Me: it's bad enough that i'm actually doing the reading, but to go ahead
Me: And random side note but I was flipping through one of the anthro chapters and there's a thing on "Food Porn"
Me: I'm slightly more interested in this chapter now
Wes: porn makes everything more interesting
Me: True
Me: minus the exception of Paris Hilton
Wes: haha ya, i wasnt too impressed by her
Me: She was only wearing slightly less than what she usually wears

Wow, do I ever update any more? Apprently not...

Anyways, I just got back to Santa Cruz from spring break. It was good to be back home, especially cause most people had the same spring break as me. I didn't do anything too exciting- mostly it just felt good to not have to think. I visited Katie and Dan in Claremont which was very good times. How I love them so. Other than that I stayed at home and hung out with friends. Got a good amount of Guitar Hero action in which always makes me smile.

So seeing as I'm going to be at school on my birthday (this Thuuursday) we did the family birthday dinner last night. As me, my twin brother, mom, dad, and grandma were looking at the menus the server started to pour wine...for me and my brother included. The server then turns to my dad and goes "They're both 21, right?" to which my father replies "Of course!" Hahahaha. So we toasted our 19th birthday with wine all around. It was a very interesting experience.

Ooooh and I finished a new video! This one is for Pam/Jim of The Office. It's to the song "Whistle For The Choir" by The Fratellis. I am SOOOO obsessed with them right now. I highly, highly recommend their CD. You'll all recognize their single "Flathead" cause they use it for the new iPod commercials. But the whole CD is really catchy and just amazing in general.

So far the new Academy Is CD is...ok. I haven't listened to it all the way through yet but so far it's alright. Nothing mind blowing or amazingly catchy (like Infinity on High), but alright. I'm excited to hear the new songs live at the end of April, though.

Blades of Glory tonight at 10. Super excited, I've been hearing good things.

My mom just sent me an email asking if she could set me up with one of her best friend's son. She sent a picture (thank God) and he's a little too football-player looking for me. I guess I appriciate her thought, but how awkward would that be? "Hi random person I've never met even though our parents have known each other since college! Wanna go have an uncomfortable dinner where we make small talk and then sit quietly as we wait for our food?" So yeah. I pass.

Tonight I'm going to a White-themed party. Do you know how hard it is to shop for an all white outfit? The answer is very. Black is so much easier (and more slimming...) plus then I wouldn't have to buy anything. But anyways, me and my friends know the guy putting it on, and he happens to be loaded. So hopefully this will be a good night.

Today is pretty much my one day of freedom, because after this it's back into hardcore study mode. I only have one final left that's on Monday (7:30-10:30 PM. Oye vey). But then I'm done with second semester and I finally get to give my brain a much needed break. I can't wait.

I really need to start updating more. I blame college, it sucks up all my time. LAME.

I think I'm going crazy. I've had so much to deal with I think my brain is going to explode.

This quarter is almost over, which means that I've got tons of papers/projects/finals coming up. I've had so much homework lately that today when I actually finished everything I needed to do I didn't know what to do with my free time. Today it was nice and sunny out, and what did I do with that weather? I did homework inside. Go me.

Yesterday I had to sign up for classes for next quarter, which is one of the most stressful things ever. Currently I'm enrolled in:

Film 20A: The Film Experience
Intro to Cultural Anthropology
Issues and Problems in America

Basically my schedule is going to blow. On Tuesdays I'm going to go from 2:00-9:00 with virtually no break. Ahhhhh shoot me. I need a resting period. I go home the end of March and I get to see all my lovelys again (well, most of them). But mostly I want to be able to just sit and not have to stress about anything (and try to get on a normal sleep pattern again).

There's not as much to do on the weekends any more either. This quarter has been especially lacking in the fun activities department. Plus I usually end up using my weekends for - what else - homework. Oh, and I have a friend who's been getting on my nerves lately but I can't say anything cause I don't want to hurt her feelings. But aahhhhh she drives insane some times.

But because I did have some free time today I finally got a chance to catch up on some magazines. And thanks to AP's "100 Bands You Have To Know About", I did some listening and found some new bands I'd like to hear more from. So does anyone have songs by any of the following:

The Mint Chicks
Wax on Radio
Mayday Parade
Envy on the Coast
Between the Trees
Tokyo Police Club
Everbody Else

Please/thank you. I'm off to be bored/antsy/generally annoyed some more now.

Valentine's Day is over. Hope everyone had a good one. Mine was pretty alright. A few days ago mi familia sent me some lovely gifts. They included:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
A teddy bear from my mom that when you squeeze it, it goes "*Annoying kissy noises and then high pitched voice* I LOVE YOU!"> And the singular reason she got it for me is because of this SNL Commercial:

My mom's a silly lady. Also I couldn't get a good picture of it, but my mom made sure to point out that on the bear's tag there was a part that says "May explode or leak". Ok, it was talking about the batteries inside it, but how often do you see that phrase on a teddy bear?
Valentine's Presents ContinuedCollapse )
So today I decided that even I didn't "have a valentines" I didn't really care, so I was super cute and did my hair and everything. It's an excuse to look extra pretty, ok?? I gave a bunch of people on my floor little Looney Toons Valentines, mostly because they reminded me of 3rd grade. I got a little Valentine from this girl down my hall who only talk to every now and that was my only one until I heard a loud knock on my door. I opened it and saw a decorated bag on the ground but with no person.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Inside was more candy (just what I need) and a card. My college was doing one of those candy-gram things and I guess it was one of those. It said it was from "your secret admirer". I'm pretty sure it was one of my friends cause it's totally girl handwriting.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
My friends who I think it is are totally in denial. And quite frankly, why would they lie about giving me a candy-gram? Does it really staisfy them that much to watch me be confused? Dani is trying to convince me that a guy did it and some girl filled in the card, but I dunno. Oh well. If it's someone I care about then they'll eventually tell me, and if not then fuck it.

Tonight me and the ladies watched Down With Love while eating our chocolate and it was lovely. Then I watched Lost which was good as well cause it was actually an interesting episode (for once). I ended my V-Day with this lovely video:

Oh Travie. I'd so play naked peek-a-book with you.

In other news:
-Remember that midterm I was 40 minutes late to? Yeah, I got a B- on it. And I beat my two friends in the class. Muahaha.

-My film midterm, on the other hand, probably gave me carpal tunnel and I am going to sue for having to write so much in such a short amount of time.

-I'm going home the weekend of April 28 to see FALL OUT BOY for the 4th time!! HOORAY FOR PIT TICKETS. I wasn't going to go if I had a seat. Awww, the little FOBs. Grown up and playing arenas. How cute (and slightly annoying for me but I'll deal). Who else is going?

-3 day weekend coming up. And I'm staying here, relatively by myself. Most of my friends are leaving. I need to get a LOT of homework done, so I figured I'd suffer through being bored every night to get my shit done. My roommate's going to be here every day except Saturday, so that's good. Saturday night I WANT to have fun plans, but I don't think I'm going to. The ex (who I get along fabulously with) drunkly invited me to his frat's formal one night, and then when we discussed later in a state of soberness he changed his mind. He told me he wanted to ask another girl, which makes sense cause I'm sure he wants to go with someone he had a chance to hook up with (though I still don't care to picture that). It doesn't really bother me that he bailed to ask someone else, I just really wanted to go and now I can't. His frat is giving the brothers and their dates wrist bands that say their 21 to get into a bar. I want that!! What other time am I going to be able to go to a bar when I'm underage?? Plus it'd be nice to be able to dress up all purtty. So right now I'm basically "back up" if this other girl says no. But that doesn't matter because he did ask me first. He hasn't told me if she said yes or not, but he if asked her I'm assuming she did say yes. If he didn't ask her yet then he's stupid and I'm praying she's going home for the weekend. FUCK I WANT TO GO.

-Homework is the death of me. Hence not updating for a long time and then writing a fatty huge post. Hope you all enjoyed!

Wow, I haven't updated since I've been back in Santa Cruz. How bad of me. Well here's what's going on in my life.

My classes are all pretty awesome. The break down of them goes as follows:

Earth Science and Cinema
Basically we learn about how the earth was hit by meteorites that wiped out the dinosaurs and then watch clips of Armageddon. Then we discuss how cinema heightens the reality of any of this happening and I space out for a bit. It's my 9:30 AM class so I'm not exactly awake for all of it. It's not too hard but fairly interesting, so that's good.

Writing 2: Narration of Encounter
My required second writing class. I signed up for this one not really knowing much about it but it's actually pretty cool. We more or less are discussing how people experience different encounters and the different perspectives people have on them. It works for me cause story telling is my thang. It has a bit more of a work load (4 page papers + reading due in 2 days) but I think I'll be able to manage.

TV Culture and Society
This class is da booomb. The first day we watched the opening of Beauty and the Geek and analyzed it. It was very interesting. Currently we're discussing the beginning of TV culture and how black people are portrayed in it. But later in the quarter I saw we're going to be watching clips from stuff like Chappelle's Show, The Daily Show, and Da Ali G Show. I'm super amped on all that. Hahaha actually last class we watched the State of the Union Address in a class. Let me paint this picture a little more clear for you: We watched President George W. Bush give a speech in a lecture hall of 250+ UC Santa Cruz student. I'm surprised there was no riot break out right then. There were a few little hisses and noises made at him, though. And when he stuttered everyone laughed. What an entertaining class that is.

So school is going quite well. Homework is a bitch and I have a lot more than I did last quarter, but I'll deal. I'm loving my Santa Cruz homies and we spent much of this 3 day weekend watching DVDs. We've watched Clerks II, The Office Season 2, and Trainspotting already. I think we're going to bust out Cruel Intentions later today. It'll be a nice break from the mass of amounts of homework I'm trying to put off.

Oh snap, last post of 2006. And I gotta say, in all honesty this was probably the best year of my life. This year was full of a lot of new people and experiences and I couldn't have asked for them to have been better. Also, it's weird to think of how different my life was even at the beginning of this year.

Highlights of 2006 include:
-Second semester of senior year
-College acceptions
-Picking my college
-Senior activites
-Finding out about some of my now favorite bands
-Billions of concerts
-First quarter of college
-New independence
-Meeting all the people I love in Santa Cruz
-All B's first quarter
-Seeing all my friends at home again
-New Years with some of my best friends

This was an amazing year. 2007 is going to have it's work cut out for it to top that one. But depending on my summer plans that I'm thinking about, maybe it has a chance.

I hope everyone has an amazing New Years. Have fun and be safe. :-)

Ah yes. Now is the time during Christmas where everyone wants to get away from their family and be alone with their new collection of goodies. This year's Christmas was fun, but not amazing. My mom woke me and my brother up around 8:30 because we were doing presents at my grandma's house. Remember back in the day when you get get up at sunrise to open presents and still have energy? Yeah, no more.

My presents were ok. They included:

-Different picture frames/hanging things
-Cute warm clothes
-Gloves/knit hat
-Island Perfume set
-The Office Season 2 DVD
-Pirates of the Caribbean 2 DVD
-Money (the gift that keeps on giving)
-Random crap
-And best of all, a Daniel Vosovic designed shirt

It's soo coutureCollapse )

On a side note, let me give you all a tip: Never, ever let your aunt shop for your Christmas presents at the Vincent Van Gogh museum in Texas. I got an ear clip. Oh no, not a clip for your ear, but a clip shaped like an ear. It's fucking weird. But as is my aunt...

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and got a whole bunch of crap they'll never use. In a few hours I'll be eating more than I'll ever want to, and then I get to do it again on Wednesday when my aunt's boyfriend gets into town. Screw the Freshman 15 in college, I'm gaining it all when I come home!
